STUD PROFILE

Karabil Arabians began breeding in earnest when the partnership of John Robertson & myself (Helen Cameron) moved to 120 acres at Hobbys Yards on the Central Tablelands NSW (45 km from Bathurst), in 1989.  Both being keen endurance riders the focus of our stud was originally to breed taller, stronger horses with good legs & sound hooves for endurance, particularly to suit the Heavyweight riders, as we were finding this type of horse hard to acquire.  This more recently has seen Karabil Arabians ideally placed to sell to the UAE endurance market as they require well-conformed horses 15.1hh & over, which is what we are producing.

We usually run the young stock together in fairly large paddocks so they have the interaction of the herd situation.  The brood mares also run together with the exception of the girls that run with our homebred sire Karabil Tagera who plays happy families with his ‘girls’!  The mares foal in a reasonably sheltered paddock that we rest for at least 5 months every year after weaning time.  Our foals are handled from a very early age, including hoof trimming, so that by the time you purchase them their first shoeing should be a breeze!

High percentage Crabbet bloodlines give us consistently good boned well-conformed horses with tractable temperaments.  We have particularly followed Sindh lines, especially through Boyar, as our foundation mare Dandaloo Bishara (Boyar x Dabsh) was a Sindh granddaughter who bred our best endurance & show horses.  A large number of our stock now are directly related to her.  We have purchased several pure Crabbet brood mares to breed to our pure Crabbet stallion Meadow View Ellusive (Braheem x Fair Beginning), broadening our market opportunities into the pure Crabbet field as well.

We take pride in breeding tall arabians with quiet temperaments & good conformation, focusing particularly on correct legs & feet.  This results in sound horses suitable for any discipline (showing, trail, pleasure) but particularly for endurance where they are performing very well especially in the UAE where many of our horses are highly competitive.
